The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for our area though Friday evening. Our facilities and maintenance teams are taking steps to "precool" unairconditioned buildings by increasing the flow of cool outside air overnight. Parents can make sure their students are well equipped to handle higher temperatures as well:
1. Protect skin with sunscreen, lip balm, hats, sunglasses, clothing, shade, and limit exposure during peak heat at midday.
2. Wearing light-colored clothing can help kids stay cool and prevent heat stress from excessive heat absorption; darker colored clothes typically provide slightly better sun protection. Also try to choose loose fitting clothing—ideally that offers both adequate ventilation and protection against direct sun exposure. Clothing made with just one layer of absorbent material can help maximize evaporation of sweat, which has a cooling effect
3. Hydrate adequately before, during, and after outdoor activity. Encourage the use of water bottles in class and throughout the day.

Let’s work together to make every moment count and harness the power of consistent attendance!
One-to-one devices like laptops are an integral part of students’ learning experience. The Kent School District 2024 Capital Projects and Technology levy replacement will help ensure that the district can maintain and replace aging devices as needed. To save costs, the district has moved to a seven-year replacement cycle for laptops, an increase from five years previously. Learn more at www.kent.k12.wa.us.
All KSD schools, buildings, and the Administration Center will be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day. Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday!
