Earlier this month, Burlington celebrated the grand opening of its first Kent location by donating $5,000 to Scenic Hill Elementary School to help support students and classrooms.
The new store, located just a few blocks from the school, partnered with Scenic Hill Elementary to provide additional classroom resources and supports for teachers and students.
“We were super excited,” said Erin Martin, assistant principal at Scenic Hill Elementary. “Burlington’s opening a new store just a few blocks down the road from our school, and they reached out to us to ask how they can be supportive.”
Martin shared that Scenic Hill serves a highly diverse and mobile student population, with 100% of students qualifying for free breakfast and lunch services.
“We have a highly mobile and extremely diverse population that benefits from community support like this,” Martin said. “This is going to allow our teachers to access more resources and supports for our students.”
Martin also emphasized the importance of building long-term community partnerships that can help families beyond the classroom.
“We’re really excited for the ongoing partnership with Burlington,” she said. “We know that this is going to be a resource for our families when they come in need for things like community supports and tangible needs for our students, including clothing and other amenities.”
The donation was presented as part of Burlington’s grand opening celebration in Kent. District Manager Ke Hong said the company is committed to supporting the communities it serves.
“As Burlington, we take pride in serving our community,” Hong said. “By opening the store in the Kent area, we believe Burlington can create jobs and also serve the community in the best ways.”
Hong added that the company is excited to become part of the Kent community while continuing to provide affordable options for local families.
“We offer brands, we offer wow deals for our customers,” he said. “We’re excited to be here to serve the community.”
The partnership highlights the impact community organizations can have in supporting students and schools, both inside and outside the classroom.
