New Teacher Orientation

Kent School District (KSD) recently welcomed its newest educators during the annual New Teacher Orientation, held ahead of the 2025–26 school year. The event introduced new teachers to the district’s values, support systems, and community—and helped set the tone for a successful start to the school year. As part of the orientation, the Kent Schools Foundation (KSF) surprised new staff with a  gift card, generously funded by Comcast.

“Well, essentially we’re here today in partnership with the Kent Schools Foundation, and it’s really to thank and provide gratitude to the hardworking teachers—and to provide them with a gift card to purchase supplies for their classroom,” said Carla Carroll, Senior Director of External Affairs at Comcast. “This partnership really aims to uplift both the students and the educators because we recognize the impact teachers make in shaping the future. We want to make sure we’re supporting that.”

The gift cards were distributed by the Kent Schools Foundation during a welcome lunch on August 18, as a way to show appreciation and offer support as teachers prepare their classrooms and begin their journey with KSD.

“Kent Schools Foundation is honored to participate with Comcast to recognize Kent School District’s new teachers with an Amazon gift card to purchase classroom supplies for their classroom. As a foundation, we are thrilled to deepen our partnership with Comcast,” said Allyson Johnson, Kent Schools Foundation President. “As we launch this new school year, let’s embrace it with optimism, curiosity, and a deep commitment to equity and excellence for all. Thank you for bringing your talents to Kent. We’re excited to see all that you’ll accomplish—and we’re here to help you thrive.”

Kent School District administrators were present to greet new teachers during orientation, offering thanks to both KSF and Comcast for their support.

“Thank you to the Kent Schools Foundation and Comcast for this generous support. So often, teachers spend their own money to create welcoming, well-equipped classrooms for their students. This gift not only eases that burden—it reminds us that we’re valued, and that our community stands behind us. It’s an inspiring way to start the school year, and we’re truly grateful,” said Wade Barringer, Deputy Superintendent.

New teachers expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the warm welcome and support they’ve received.

“Going into my first year teaching, it’s a little scary because I’ve learned I’m the youngest person I’ve met so far,” said Madison Maggio, third-grade teacher at Sawyer Woods. “It’s a little intimidating, but from this event and working within the Kent School District so far, I’ve learned how much support I have. It doesn’t really matter who you are or where you come from—you’re going to have that support and encouragement. So far, it’s just felt so homelike. Everyone is so welcoming and engaging.”

“This means so much to me because I’m coming in from a different state, moving here by myself,” shared Rowan Kloss, music teacher at Daniel Elementary. “I had no supplies. And this was super helpful to get me started and actually have a classroom that looks like a community inside.”

The orientation marked the beginning of what promises to be a year of growth, collaboration, and student success. As part of the OneKSD commitment to unity and excellence, the district is excited to welcome its new teachers and is dedicated to supporting them every step of the way.
