Each year, the Washington School Recognition Program highlights schools that demonstrate exceptional progress in key areas of student success. This year, George T. Daniel Elementary, Meridian Elementary, and Panther Lake Elementary were all honored for demonstrating growth for students in one or more racial or ethnic groups. Recognition is based on school performance data from the Washington School Improvement Framework. This year, only 16 percent of schools received this distinction across the state.
Superintendent Israel Vela commended the elementary schools: “We are incredibly proud of the remarkable progress made by Daniel, Meridian, and Panther Lake to be recognized by the Washington State Recognition Program. Their commitment to student success and equity—especially in closing opportunity gaps for students from historically underserved racial and ethnic groups—reflects the heart of our mission. This honor affirms the hard work of our educators, staff, and students, and it inspires us to keep pushing forward to ensure every learner thrives.”
The three schools were recognized at the June 11 board meeting for their accomplishments. Each school also received a banner from Washington State to display in their buildings. Congratulations to these schools for their commitment and dedication to improving outcomes for students.
