Sub Celebration

On June 9, Kent School District held its annual guest employee celebration on the Administration Campus. Guest employees enjoyed food, drink, and the opportunity to bond with their fellow co-workers. Over 700 guest employees—from teachers to paraeducators to clerical—provide critical support across the district every day.

Gwendolyne Ford has been a guest employee for the district for over ten years. “I love what I do,” Gwen said. “The staff are so supportive, and I love the kids.” Gwen lost her son, who was a Kentwood alum, and is a guest teacher to honor his memory.

Craig Solbrack taught music for 41 years, including over 20 years in the Kent School District. He has been a guest teacher since his retirement in 2021. “I’ve never really lost my love for teaching,” Craig said. He enjoys the flexibility substitute teaching provides for him in his retirement.

"We are so grateful for our team of guest employees, who play a pivotal role in keeping KSD running smoothly each and every day. Their flexibility, professionalism, and support helps our students grow and succeed. We couldn't fulfill the mission of KSD without them," said Chris Croce, HR Assistant, Substitute Services.
