On Wednesday, May 28, Kent School District honored all the teachers who have achieved their National Board Certification. This certification represents the highest professional credential in the field of teaching, signifying a deep commitment to excellence, reflection, and continual growth. This rigorous, peer-reviewed process recognizes educators who meet high and exacting standards through study, expert evaluation, self-assessment, and peer review.
This certification not only elevates the teaching profession but also directly benefits students by ensuring they are taught by accomplished educators who use evidence-based practices and continually refine their craft. By pursuing and achieving this distinction, teachers demonstrate leadership, instructional mastery, and a dedication to educational equity—helping to raise the bar for schools and districts nationwide.
Laura Mroos and Ryan Chinn are the district’s National Board facilitators:
“As KSD’s National Board cohort facilitators, Ryan and I were honored to celebrate the teachers who certified in December 2024. National Board Certification is a rigorous process requiring 200-400 hours of reflection, analysis, and study. These educators closely examine their practice through student work, video, data, and assessments—all in pursuit of excellence. Their journey reflects a deep commitment to equitable, high-quality teaching that positively impacts students, schools, and communities. Their perseverance and professionalism embody the very best of our profession, and we are proud to recognize their extraordinary achievement.”
