Timothy Jenkins

Celebrating Autism Acceptance Month in the Kent School District

Kent, WA — Timothy Jenkins knows what it’s like to need support—and what it means to pay it forward. As an autistic student in the Kent School District, he once relied on a paraeducator to help him navigate school. Today, he stands in those same shoes, serving as a substitute paraeducator for the district that shaped him. His journey—from supported student to supportive mentor—is a testament to resilience, community, and the power of believing in potential.

Timothy’s educational journey wasn’t linear. Growing up, he gradually built the skills and confidence to thrive independently. By high school, he was ready to challenge himself further, transferring to a larger school for more social and extracurricular opportunities. “I wanted to push myself,” he recalls.

Now, Timothy supports students who remind him of his younger self. As a substitute paraeducator, he brings empathy, insight, and firsthand experience to his role.

Beyond the classroom, Timothy is an actor and advocate, starring in an online autism educational series that helps others navigate social situations. His message? Connection is worth the effort.

“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there,” he urges. “You never know who you’ll relate to—or how you’ll connect with people.

Timothy plans to continue his work in education and acting, embracing flexibility and growth. His journey—from supported student to supportive educator—highlights the impact of acceptance, perseverance, and community. “I feel like I’m part of the community working as a substitute paraeducator,” Timothy said.
