The High School & Beyond Plan is a Washington State high school graduation requirement designed to support students’ college, career, and life exploration throughout their secondary education (grades 7 – 12) by identifying the steps needed to reach their postsecondary goals. Students work with their homeroom or advisory teachers, school counselors, and/or college and career readiness staff to develop their own individualized plan and update it on a yearly basis to reflect changing interests or postsecondary goals, and identify the available interventions and academic supports needed.
Begins in seventh grade.
Identification of career goals, aided by a skills/career interest inventory assessment.
Identification of educational goals for graduation and beyond.
Four-Year Course Plan for course-taking that fulfills state and local graduation requirements and aligns with the student’s career and educational goals and personalized and graduation pathways.
Resume or activity log.
Identification of a students’ personalized pathway requirements and graduation pathway.
Evidence that the student has received information on federal and state financial aid programs that help pay for post-secondary programs, including College Bound Scholarship eligibility and application information.
For students who have not met standard on state assessments, information about interventions and academic supports, courses, or both, that have been provided or completed to meet high school graduation requirements.
For a student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), the student’s IEP and HSBP must align.
