If the federal government shutdown continues, food assistance benefits in Washington will end on Oct. 31, 2025. Losing food assistance will have devastating impacts on the well-being of hundreds of thousands of Washington residents and will hurt local economies across the state. DSHS has more information about the impacts as well as what clients can do to prepare for the loss of benefits.

Last month, Kent-Meridian juniors Tee, Jazlynne, and Tyanna (from l to r) were all named regional finalists in the Next Narrative Monologue Competition, a national theatre contest for high school students. The regional final was held at Seattle Repertory Theatre in mid-March, where Tyanna was one of two winners of the competition. She will travel to New York City to compete in the national final at the historic Apollo Theater in early May. Congratulations to our theatre students! #OneKSD #OneClass

Kent-Meridian High School Senior Jessie Neff won the Boys 3A Wrestling State Championship at the State Tournament in Tacoma last month. Jessie has been wrestling for three years at KM, and compiled an impressive 37 match wins this season leading up to the state tournament. In Tacoma, Jessie ran the table winning five straight matches to claim the State Title at 165 lbs. Jessie had an incredible season capping his senior year with a State Championship. The whole team stormed the mat to hug and cheer him on after his emotional finish at State. Way to go Jessie Neff! (photo courtesy of KSD community member) #OneClass #OneKSD

All schools and the administration campus are open today, Friday, February 14. Schools are starting and ending at their normal times with the exception of elementary schools that will release three hours early due to elementary conferences.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for our area until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, February 14. This weather system is expected to bring snow and freezing temperatures overnight and into the morning hours. Due to a scheduled three-hour early release for all elementary schools as part of elementary conferences, a two-hour delayed/late start cannot be implemented due to conflicts within our transportation system, which operates multiple routes for both elementary and secondary schools.
We encourage you to stay informed by checking local weather reports and monitoring your email or other preferred communication channels early tomorrow morning, Friday, February 14. In the event of any changes to school schedules or district operations, we will make a decision by 5:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14.
