Kent School District has received a clean accountability audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the period of Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2025. This marks the seventh consecutive clean audit the district has received. The report found the district complied, in all material respects, with applicable state laws, regulations, and district policies in the areas examined, while also providing adequate controls for safeguarding public resources.
The independent accountability audit reviewed multiple operational and financial areas identified as having the highest potential risk for fraud, loss, abuse, or noncompliance. Areas examined included payroll procedures, procurement practices, budget compliance, Associated Student Body activities, information technology security controls, open public meetings compliance, and oversight of restricted funds and enrichment activities.
According to the Washington State Auditor’s Office, “District operations complied, in all material respects, with applicable state laws, regulations, and its own policies, and provided adequate controls over the safeguarding of public resources.”
The audit also reviewed the district’s financial condition and found no indications of financial distress.
“We appreciate the professionalism and dedication of our staff in maintaining strong financial practices and accountability systems that support student success and public trust,” said Kent School District leadership.
Kent School District serves approximately 25,284 full-time equivalent students across a 72-square-mile area in South King County and operates four high schools, seven middle schools, 29 elementary schools, three academies, and an Open Doors program.
