The Kent School District has been recognized by state officials for its outstanding commitment to student transportation safety.
In a joint letter from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Washington State Patrol (WSP), Superintendent Vela and the district’s transportation team were commended for achieving exceptional results in the state’s annual school bus inspection program.
According to the letter, the district has met strict inspection standards for two consecutive years, earning a formal “Letter of Achievement.” The annual inspections, conducted by WSP, evaluate the safety and operational readiness of school buses across Washington.
State Superintendent Chris Reykdal and WSP Chief John R. Batiste praised the district’s “diligent and tireless efforts” to ensure student safety.
“Your diligent efforts in providing students with safe transportation to and from school, as well as to extracurricular activities, are truly commendable,” the letter stated.
The recognition highlights the work of transportation staff who maintain buses, conduct safety checks, and ensure compliance with rigorous state standards. Officials emphasized that such efforts play a critical role in protecting students every day.
OSPI and WSP encouraged the district to continue its high level of performance, noting that student safety remains a top priority statewide.
