Dear Northwood Community,
Due to a power outage, school is canceled. today, Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Please pick up your student in the parent pick up area. If your student rides a bus, transportation will be taking them home. They will be picked up from Northwood before 10:00 a.m. If your student rides a bike or walks, they may be released upon parent/guardian permission. We thank you for your understanding.
Thank you,
Northwood Middle School

Dear Northwood Families,
I’m reaching out to provide an update and to assure you that the situation from earlier today has been fully resolved. At no time was any student or staff member in danger or unsafe. I am so proud of how our staff handled the incident—they performed magnificently, ensuring everyone's safety and enabling us to lift the lockdown in just a matter of minutes.
At Northwood, we always err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our students and staff. This means we act decisively and thoroughly when any potential threat arises. We also understand that initial information shared, such as through police scanners, reflects what is believed to be known at the moment and is often clarified as the situation unfolds.
To address any rumors or misconceptions, I want to emphasize that a weapon was not brandished or shown in a dangerous manner (which may have been initially reported) during this incident. Our team worked closely with local law enforcement to quickly resolve the matter, prioritizing everyone's safety throughout the process. To be clear, it was also reported that a non-student was trying to enter the building just prior to the lockdown but was ushered away by our Safety Officer. Law enforcement later made contact with this individual.
I want to thank our students, staff, and families for their cooperation, patience, and trust as we worked through the necessary safety procedures. Your support is essential to creating a secure and supportive environment at Northwood Middle School.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Thank you again for your understanding and partnership.
Warm regards,
Principal Haines

Northwood ASB will be hosting a Movie Night on Wednesday, December 11th for all Northwood Middle School Students. It will be held in the Commons right after school from 1PM-3PM. We will be watching Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. There will be popcorn and concession snacks ($1 for drinks and $2 for snacks) for students to purchase during the event (cash only). Please avoid sending students any food deliveries throughout the day as we will be limited in staff.
Admission is $1 for ASB students and $2 for non ASB students and can be purchased at the ASB window. This event will occur right after school, so students who are attending will not be going home until after the event (3PM) and are expected to have their own mode of transportation afterwards. Please avoid early pickups as we will be limited in staff. Students who will not be attending Movie Night will go home like they normally do.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Students must be in good standing to be able to attend Movie Night.
Be clear of any suspensions and unexcused tardies/truancies in the last 3 weeks coming up to the event (November 20th - December 11th)
Must be present at school on the day of the event
Student IDs are required to be checked into Movie Night
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Lynna.Macaibay@kent.k12.wa.us
