The Kent School District (KSD) is celebrating major recognition for its Facilities team, as two staff members were honored by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) for their leadership and impact in energy conservation.
Kurt Anderson received PSE’s “Biggest Saver (Electricity)” award, recognizing his leadership and the team’s sustained efforts to reduce energy use across the district. Through these efforts, Kent School District achieved significant energy savings over the past year, including more than 1.37 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 27,000 therms of natural gas. These reductions resulted in approximately $150,000 in avoided energy costs.
“This award recognizes years of consistent effort and collaboration across our Facilities team,” said Facilities Director Gordon Cook. “We’re very proud of Kurt and the entire team for advancing this important work.”
In addition to Anderson’s recognition, Laura Edmondson was named “Fellow of the Year” by PSE, honoring her outstanding contributions over the past year.
Together, the awards highlight the dedication and expertise of the district’s Facilities staff, whose work not only reduces operational costs but also supports environmental sustainability across KSD schools.
Kent School District leaders emphasized that these efforts benefit both the district and the broader community, demonstrating how thoughtful energy management can create lasting impact.
The district congratulates Kurt Anderson, Laura Edmondson, and the entire Facilities team on this well-deserved recognition and thanks them for their continued commitment to efficiency, innovation, and stewardship.
