Scenic Hill Elementary School began the 2026-27 school year with reason to celebrate after the unveiling of its brand-new library and media center. During a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 24, students, families, and staff were joined by representatives of the firms responsible for the library’s design and construction to celebrate its official opening. Librarian Andrea Goulet, who provided invaluable input on the project, cut the ribbon with the assistance of a student.

Scenic Hill’s previous library had been much smaller by comparison and proved difficult to accommodate multiple demands at once. Now, the school has a 3,362 square-foot learning and gathering space that is flexible enough to host various programs simultaneously. Bookshelves can be moved, tables folded, and a flexible maker space gives students an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning and collaboration without disruption.

As one of four Kent School District schools offering the Spanish Dual Language program, Scenic Hill was already an exemplar of KSD’s commitment to help students develop the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Now, with its adaptable library, it can continue the good work of providing equitable opportunities and empowering every student to achieve their full potential.
