The Story
After serving time in prison, a young woman named Percy Talbott is looking for a fresh start and settles in the sleepy, forgotten town of Gilead, Wisconsin, after seeing a photo of it in an old travel book. She lands a job at the town’s only eatery, The Spitfire Grill, which is run by a grumpy matriarch named Hannah. The diner has been up for sale for years with no takers, so the feisty Percy comes up with a crazy, modern idea to save it: she convinces Hannah to hold a nationwide essay contest where people pay $100 and write about why they want the grill. As letters pour in by the wheelbarrow, the whole town is forced to wake up, secrets about a mysterious stranger in the woods are revealed, and Percy helps everyone—including herself—find redemption and a second chance.
"The Spitfire Grill" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Music and book by James Valcq. Lyrics and book by Fred Alley. The show is based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff.
