Most Important Considerations for the 2020-21 School Year

Background

On May 29, 2020 launched an exchange with the following question, What are the most important things our school district needs to think about as we continue to respond to COVID-19 and plan for the 2020-21 school year?  to discover different perspectives and inform our decisions on this important topic.

We are planning for a non-traditional start to the school year and should be prepared to pivot to a more robust continuous learning model as needed based on county and state health guidance.

KSD remains committed to both our mission of successfully preparing all students for their futures and prioritizing the health and safety of all students and staff. In anticipation of OSPI planning to release their guidance document and resources for all districts June 8-12., we shared this Thoughtexchange through our various KSD platforms multiple times and all KSD community members were invited to participate.

The results of this exchange will be included as community input in the KSD Fall Reopening Committee's Recommendations for the opening of schools in the 2020-21 school year.

This exchange was scheduled to open until Friday, June 5 at Noon. Based on staff and community requests for more time to participate, the Thoughtexchange deadlines was extended through Monday, June 8 at 1pm.

Thank you for exploring this exchange. Kent School District is continuing our work on a reopening plan focusing on implementing the required health and hygiene practices announced by OSPI on June 11, 2020. While there are many details still to determine, additional communication and opportunities for our KSD community to provide feedback will occur throughout our planning process. In the coming weeks, we will continue collaborating with our labor partners, Reopening Committee, and be reaching out to representatives from our schools, community, and parent associations for additional input.
