Inclement Weather Notifications

In emergency situations, such as snow and icy weather conditions, the top priority is the safety of students and staff. We also recognize school closures disrupt family schedules and extend the school year. The decision to close schools is not an easy one. It’s also complicated by the fact that our district covers 72 square miles of diverse terrain. In one part of the district, the roads may be perfectly clear while others are struggling with snow and/or ice.

We have several different methods of notification when school is closed or delayed due to inclement weather:

Automated Phone Calls

Automated phone calls will be made early in the morning to the primary household number(s) for each family. Please ensure your contact information is current in the Skyward system.

In addition, it is recommended to provide a telephone option that will operate during a power outage. (Many landlines are now bundled with cable services and do not work during power outages.)

Emails

Emails will be sent to all parents/guardians and KSD accounts. If you are a parent or guardian, please ensure you have an email address saved in the Skyward system.

Kent School District Mobile App Notifications

Notifications will be sent through the Kent School District mobile app directly to mobile phones. If you haven’t already, download the free app from the AppStore or Google Play. Be sure to enable push notifications to receive the alerts.

District and School Website Alerts

Alerts will be posted on the Kent School District and school homepages.

Social Media Updates

Updates will be shared on the District’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts.

FlashAlerts

Information will be sent via FlashAlert. Visit Kent School District's FlashAlert page to subscribe and receive email messages from KSD.

Local Media

The District will notify local media of any closures or delays.
