KSD Seeks Community Input on Renewal Levy Proposed for February 2022

There is a gap between what the state funds and the education Kent School District provides to students. Local levy funds make up the difference. In addition, levy dollars support student enrichment programs not fully funded by the state.

In October, our Kent School District Board of Directors will consider passing a resolution for a Replacement Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy to be placed on the February 8, 2022, ballot.

The School Board will vote on this resolution at the November 2021 open public meeting. We invite our entire KSD community to learn more about the proposed renewal levy by attending or watching upcoming board meetings

If the school board approves the renewal levy resolution, then voters will have an opportunity to maintain current funding to support KSD students, including programs like bullying prevention; safety and security; and professional development that is not fully funded by the state for essential staff like classroom teachers, nurses, counselors, and bus drivers. The levy would appear in the February 2022 special election to replace our current levy approved by voters in 2020 that expires in December 2022.

As the board prepares to consider information about the proposed renewal levy, KSD is engaging the students, staff, family, and community in mutliple ways before the board meeting on October 27, 2021.

  • Public Comments at Board Meetings

A third option for the public to engage with the board and district is through providing comments at open board meetings. Information about board meetings and submitting comments is available on our website.

District leaders will use the survey and exchange information to help inform the replacement levy, communication, and engagement. Responses will also be made available to the board before considering the levy renewal resolution.

Each and every student in our community benefits every day from the resources provided by our voters. Thank you for your support in successfully preparing all students for their futures. Thank you in advance for your input and participation; it is valued and appreciated.
