Return to Headlines

July 24, 2020

We all want to get back to in-person learning just as soon as possible, which is why you see our staff in masks all over the KSD Community! In addition to wearing their face coverings, our staff who are in the buildings are completing daily health screenings, taking their temperatures, staying home when they feel ill, and calling their doctor with symptoms of COVID-19. We care deeply about the health and well being of our students and our staff, which is why we are starting school this year in our remote learning model.

Remote Learning in 2020-21 Will Not be the same as in Spring 2020

Instruction in both the hybrid model and remote learning model will be different than the continuous learning students experienced at the end of last school year:

  • per OSPI guidelines, remote learning in any model will more closely align with in-person learning expectations
  • students will be assessed in remote learning models, and grading will be aligned to standards, regardless of the instructional setting
  • all student work will count towards determining the student's performance level
  • ongoing student engagement will be expected and closely monitored daily
  • more training on our districtwide learning management system will be provided to students, families, and teachers to support daily engagement on consistent districtwide platforms
  • information and training will also be provided on district-approved supplemental applications for learning and communication
As the Back to School Task Force continues finalizing the remote learning plan details, here are some important updates and resources to help ensure that you ready to go back to school!

Kent School District will provide free WiFi hotspots for our students and families in need at select free summer meal locations on Mondays while supplies last. We will continue providing regular updates and additional information as we begin the countdown to our new school year! We encourage everyone to be mindful of key preventive measures, including wearing face coverings and washing your hands thoroughly.
