Behavior Health Screening

Screen, Intervene & Refer

The physical and mental health of young people plays a key role in their ability to succeed in school. The Kent School District (KSD) is committed to working with you, not only in the academic education of your child, but also to ensure that students reach their full potential outside of the classroom.

A new program is being implemented at all KSD middle schools. The Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral To Services (SBIRT) process will be implemented based on outcomes of a structured screening process.

  1. Students take the screening tool on their laptops
  2. Students who screen “at risk” of suicide will meet personally with a counselor that day
  3. Parents are notified if the student is at danger of harming themselves or others

The purpose of the screening is to identify students who may be at risk of self-harm and connect them with the resources to support them.
