Kent Rotary Recognizes Students

Students on stage being recognized for earning their scholarship awards.  Kent Rotary Club awarded ten students Rotary scholarships on Tuesday, May 14 at its Scholar Celebration, which recognizes and celebrates the top five percent of graduating seniors from the high schools and academies in Kent School District (KSD).

More than 90 KSD students qualified as scholarship winners and ten were selected to receive Rotary scholarships. Seven students received the Scholar Scholarship award; two received Rotary’s Vocational/Technical Scholarship award; one received Rotary’s inaugural Online Scholarship award; and one of the students who received the Scholar Scholarship award also received the Diego Moreno Scholarship.

Kim Walley, Club Director Youth Service Chair of Kent Rotary said, “The youth is our future and we need to do what we can to assist them to be successful!”

This is the first time Kent Rotary combined the Scholar Scholarship event with Kent Community Foundation and  its community partners. Students had the opportunity to apply online for the first time, which gave them access to 16 different scholarships.

Walley said their goal for next year’s application is to add more community scholarships that will be available to KSD students in their second, third, and fourth years of college.

More than 20 KSD students were awarded community scholarships.
