SAT and PSAT Information for the 2021-22 School Year

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and a broader shift away from inequitable gatekeeping practices to postsecondary education, all public colleges and universities in Washington State have removed the SAT/ACT as a requirement for college admission or scholarship offerings. This decision is permanent and will continue for future entering freshmen classes. Read More

Reminder: Kent School Board Meetings

The Kent School Board meetings are in person, and you can watch on YouTube. More information about the meeting, agendas and public comments is available on our website. Masks are required on the district campus, including in board meetings. The next scheduled Regular School Board meeting is Wednesday, September 22, at 7:00 PM.


COVID-19 Safety Reminders and Information

Thank you to everyone for helping us follow health and safety protocols. It takes all of us working together to keep our schools open. We are still in a pandemic and will continue sending weekly updates to answer some questions you may have about our processes.

What do I do if my student has a COVID symptom(s)?

  • Staying home when sick with COVID-19 is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of schools and prevent spread to others.  
  • Students and school employees who have symptoms of infectious illness, such as influenza (flu) or COVID-19, should stay home and seek medical evaluation, including testing for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections.
  • If your student has ANY COVID symptoms or has tested positive for COVID, they must not come to school, even if vaccinated.
  • If your student is experiencing COVID symptoms, they must stay home and quarantine. Testing is strongly encouraged.
  • If experiencing COVID symptoms and waiting for test results, your student must stay home and quarantine until results are received.
  • Families must report a positive case in their household to their teacher, principal, or school nurse. Communication with your school is key to your student’s safety and learning!

What are the COVID-19 symptoms?

Most coronavirus illnesses are mild with fever and cough. COVID-19 symptoms could include any of the following, symptoms may appear 2 – 14 days after exposure to the virus:

  • Fever of 100.4°F or 38°C or higher
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Other signs of new illness that are unrelated to a preexisting condition (such as seasonal allergies)

What happens if there’s a positive case at my student’s school?

  • If your student is identified as a close contact to a person who is COVID-19 positive, your school will contact you directly. KSD staff will provide as much information as possible while protecting the identity of the positive person.
  • If your child has a confirmed case of COVID-19, he/she will be required to quarantine. The length of time will be determined by the COVID site supervisor and health team, who are in consultation with Public Health-Seattle & King County.
  • There are different scenarios and situations that can impact quarantine requirements and testing options. The COVID site supervisor or health team will communicate with you to determine testing options and dates.
  • If directed to quarantine, your student must stay home until the date indicated. Please communicate any test results with your school.
  • For those who have close contact and test negative, the Kent School District is using the Public Health-Seattle & King County 10 day quarantine guidance with an option to test on day 5 to return on day 8 with the negative results.
  • Your principal may notify all families via email when there is a positive case in your student’s school, regardless of whether your student was a close contact or not.
  • Please contact your student’s school if you have additional questions. Communication with your school is key to your student’s safety and learning!
