Mental Health Support for Students Expanding

Three types of expansions are happening with our Hazel Health teletherapy partners. The first expansion includes extending our current 10-pilot school supports beyond February 2023. These supports will now conclude on June 30, 2023 to ensure a continuity of services to our stakeholders.

Two, we have added teletherapy services to the remainder of our high schools and one more elementary school until June 30, 2023. This means all of our high schools and middle schools have teletherapy services, along with four elementary schools.

Finally, in addition to providing teletherapy mental health services access to students in eighteen of our schools, we have launched at home only physical health services at our schools as well. This means students will be able to attend virtual mental health counseling sessions from home or school and virtual doctor visits from home at no cost through our partnership with Hazel Health.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the mental and physical health services work?

For mental health, Hazel Health provides assessments and screenings, counseling, and navigation to additional community resources. Our students can access ongoing support from highly qualified, licensed mental health

clinicians during teletherapy appointments through Hazel Health from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm Monday through Friday.

For physical health, Hazel Health doctors can evaluate a child’s symptoms and provide the appropriate type of treatment during on-demand telehealth visits from home. Hazel can help with everything from acne and asthma to allergies, headaches, and pink eye.

Our students can access ongoing support from highly qualified Hazel Health staff (at home only) from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday.

Why are we partnering with Hazel Health?

When students are healthy, they attend and perform better in school. We know that many students have social/emotional and other unmet needs that exist within and outside the schoolhouse. We are uniquely positioned to mitigate or eliminate these barriers for our students. We hope to see increased student attendance, achievement, confidence, and resilience coupled with favorable decision making.

What is next?

We are continuing to collaborate with our school community stakeholders and Hazel Health teletherapy partner. We hope to expand teletherapy services to all elementary schools. In this moment, we can all make a difference in the lives of our students by granting them access to much needed services. Utilizing district funded ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) supports to supplement other funding supports for this cause creates learning environments where our students can survive and thrive.
