Congratulations Murwared Sayed!

MuraweedCongratulations to Kent-Meridian High School Student Murwared Sayed! Murwared earned two prestigious scholarships totaling almost $50,000 to help pay for college. She plans to attend the University of Washington in Seattle this fall and wants to study Biology or Pre-Medicine.

"I want to be a heart surgeon and a women’s rights activist," she said. "I am excited about my future and I am seeing my dreams turning into reality."

Muraweed is graduating from Kent-Meridian in June and earned the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship and the Leadership 1000 Scholarship. Muraweed said she is happy and grateful to be chosen as the recipient of these two scholarships.

"I am beyond happy and grateful because I have achieved my goals and today I’m proud of my accomplishments," she said. "Moving here five years ago I never thought I would be where I am today. I am a full IB diploma candidate, I am accepted to the university I wanted, and earned scholarships. I’m can’t wait for the day where I would return back to my teachers and family thanking them with my white coat on to save lives."

Principal Radford and her teachers said they are also proud of her accomplishments.

“Srta. Sayed is a scholar in my most advanced level course of a world language. She shows to be extremely determined to change her family´s legacy. By the time we met this year, she had already embarked on a journey with its fair share of obstacles that she's overcome on her way to success via rigorous learning," Manuel Cadenas said. "I am fortunate to have crossed paths with Murwared and her family and wish them nothing but success."

"These aren't just accomplishments for me, but it’s the promise that I had made with my parents that I will make them proud," Muraweed explained. "I’m appreciative of my family, friends, peers, and especially my mom who has always been there for me through ups and downs, always encouraged and supported me. I am so lucky because both my mom and my dad are very supportive and they have believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself."
