EP December News in Brief
Baby, It’s Cold Outside!
We are well into our season of winter weather, so it’s a great time to stop and ask yourself, “Is my student winter ready?” Did you know that students go outside for recess every day, even if it is raining, snowing, windy, or freezing? Students only stay in if the weather absolutely demands it (i.e. lightning, thunder, extreme rain). It is our goal to keep students happy and healthy during recess each day, so it is vital that all our students come to school dressed for the weather. Dress in layers, and if there is ice on the roofs, frost on the grass, rain in the air, or you can see your breath, please send your student with warm coat or jacket. While we understand that not every child will choose to wear their jacket, it is important for them to have the option of staying warm on cold and wet days. Thank you so much for helping us keep your students warm and dry this winter!
Plans for the Website
EP’s website is getting an upgrade. Actually the entire district will launch improved web sites in early January. Ours is already updated with staff, a news feed for timely announcements and new photos. Text can be viewed in a variety of languages by selecting your preferred language in the upper right corner. We hope to utilize the Peach Jar to post flyers as well as continue to link to our PTSA’s robust and informative site.
School Closure and Delay Notifications
Kent School District has several different methods of notification when school is closed or delayed due to inclement weather.
Automated Phone Calls: Automated phone calls will be made early in the morning to the primary household number(s) for each family. Please ensure your contact information is current in the Skyward system. In addition, it is recommended to provide a telephone option that will operate during a power outage. (Many landlines are now bundled with cable services and do not work during power outages.)
Emails: Emails will be sent to all parents/guardians and KSD accounts. If you are a parent or guardian, please ensure you have an email address saved in the Skyward system.
Kent School District Mobile App Notifications: Notifications will be sent through the Kent School District mobile app directly to mobile phones. If you haven’t already, download the free app from the AppStore or Google Play. Be sure to enable push notifications to receive the alerts. You can choose to view the app in one of 77 available languages. Visit the app’s settings and select your preferred language to get started. Step-by-step instructions for Android users are available at www.kent.k12.wa.us/Page/7404.
District and School Website Alerts: Alerts will be posted on the Kent School District and school homepages.
Social Media Updates: Updates will be shared on the District’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Local Media: The District will notify local media of any closures or delays.
