Incoming Kindergarten Parents - Save the Dates

Kindergarten students will begin school on September 6th.

On August 31st, September 1st, or September 5th, parents and their kindergarteners have an opportunity to meet individually with their child’s teacher as part of the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) program. This is a great opportunity to begin building a relationship with the student’s teacher. If the student has been in preschool or childcare, parents should consider sharing information received from the early learning provider or any other assessment information about the child. The elementary school will reach out to parents during the summer to set up their meeting.

Note: Kindergarten students will not attend classes August 31st, September 1st, or 5th to allow time for these important meetings. Kindergarten students will begin attending classes September 6th.

Each year, 80,000 children enter kindergarten with varying degrees of skills. WaKIDS meetings are an opportunity for kindergarten teachers to use the observations they record to improve classroom teaching and tailor their instruction to the needs of each child. WaKIDS also helps discover ways to engage effectively with families and inform decisions at the community, district, and state levels.
