Kent School District Board Member Selected

In a special board meeting on Thursday, September 1, the Kent School District Board of Directors selected Meghin Margel for the vacant board position in District 2. A warm welcome to Meghin as she begins her new role. Meghin will serve in this role until November 2023, when this director position will be up for re-election.

Meghin is a proud graduate of Kentridge High School and has two kids, a daughter who is a freshman at Kentridge and a son attending Ridgewood Elementary School. She graduated from the University of Washington with a political science degree and has worked in the financial industry for almost 30 years. She recently received her Master of Business Administration from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.

In her interview, Meghin stated her interest in becoming a board member was to give back to a community that has given so much to her. “I want to make sure that all of our students have doors wide open to them and that they have the same opportunities to be able to make those choices of where they take their careers and their education,” said Meghin.

Additionally, Meghin sees equity and celebrating diversity in the Kent School District as necessary for this position. “Equity to me is a point of celebration, to make sure that we have the voices of the many different aspects of our community heard, and making sure we are meeting those needs,” she said.

Meghin will be sworn in at the regular board meeting on Wednesday, September 14, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be live streamed on the Kent School District YouTube. The public is welcome to attend in person. Congratulations to Meghin Margel on becoming the new District 2 director.
