Bond Planning Task Force

Kent School District Bond Planning Task Force

In 2021, information was shared with the Kent School District (KSD) Board of Directors about possible funding needed for building expansion and facility modernization to continue providing all students a successful learning environment. Capacity and building condition studies were conducted to provide facts and evidence on capital infrastructure projects needed to support safe and healthy learning and teaching spaces across the district.

In April 2022, this information was formally shared with the school board along with a plan to bring a capital bond measure recommendation to the board after gathering input from capital measure experts and community stakeholders.

In May 2022, the district solicited interest in joining a Bond Planning Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of 40 parents, staff, and community members. The members were chosen through an application, selection, and lottery process to create a diverse demographic representation of our community. Once the diversity demographic expectation was met, names were randomly drawn for the remaining open positions. If a committee member is absent or has chosen to no longer be a part of the committee, the lottery selection process will be repeated, and a name randomly drawn for the open position.

The Bond Planning Task Force has analyzed and studied a variety of data and information regarding the district’s capital facility needs, along with touring some of the school buildings identified as needing significant modernization. From this work, the Task Force will determine a set of recommendations to the school board for capital infrastructure projects for referral to voters.

The Bond Planning Task Force meetings began in July 2022 and will run through October 2022.
