Telling Our Stories Art, Social Justice & Superheroes

Students smile with Vishvajit Singh, aka Sikh Captain America

Daniel Elementary students, parents, and staff learned about the power of sharing stories from Vishvajit Singh, aka Sikh Captain America, during Diversity Appreciation Night on September 27.

“Our commitments to equity and student-centered practices are embedded in everything we do from our interactions with our community to instruction,” said Principal Patty Drobny. “I am excited for this event. Our students need to see heroes and role models that look like them and that look like their classmates.”

Vishvajit is the creator of and Diversity and Creative Arts Fellow at Saldef. He travels across the United States hosting presentations and workshops in schools, universities, companies, libraries, and museums to challenge stereotypes and prejudices.

A cartoon exhibit featuring Singh’s work is currently on display at Wing Luke Museum in Seattle.
