Welcome to Autumn at Lake Youngs!
We have had a wonderful opening to the school year, and by now our learning routines are well-established. If you walk the halls of Lake Youngs, you will be impressed with the quality of instruction, and the eagerness for learning that our student show.
On a daily basis, students are gaining new skills in math, reading, and writing. They also benefit from our social skills curriculum, Second Step, and from our fabulous Art Docent program, which is a robust art experience program that is directed and taught entirely by volunteers- courtesy of our PTSA!
The Grizzly Way
Many of you know that recently our “Grizzly Way” was condensed and simplified to make it easier for students (and staff!) to remember and follow.
- Ready to Learn
- Safe Each Day
- Kind to All
Of these guiding principles, we all can agree that “Kind to All” is the most important. Lake Youngs has started an initiative to encourage kindness. We recently held an assembly where every student was given a shirt that states: “Choose Kind,” and our student officers led our Lake Youngs Community in a pledge to demonstrate kindness in all that we do.
Going forward, we will wear our “Choose Kind” shirts every Tuesday, to help remind us of our pledge!
The Lake Youngs Community
We recently wrapped up our Parent/Teacher Conference week. We were very successful, with 96 percent of our families attending conferences. Our goal, however, is 100 percent. A child’s growth is dependent on the support of those closest to them: Parents and Teachers.
Your interest in your child’s education demonstrates an interest in them and helps to motivate them to stretch and grow. Conference week is an excellent time to communicate with your child’s teacher, but it is not the only time. Our teachers are eager to hear your concerns and suggestions, and to work with you to provide your child with the absolute highest level of instruction.
Volunteer: Be a Part of the Action at Lake Youngs!
We believe in the importance of community, and we are blessed to have a remarkably strong and active community here at Lake Youngs. Please be an active part of it! We are always looking for volunteers to support classroom learning and activities, whether reading to students, helping with bulletin boards, eating lunch with students, or playing with them at recess.
Look for the many ways you can participate, for example by joining the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), participating in the B.E.A.R.S (Buddies Engaging And Reaching Students) program, or joining our Parent Equity Roundtable.
Please stop by the office to ask for more information, or, contact me directly! We look forward to seeing you at Lake Youngs!
