  • WOIS: The Career Information System

    WOIS is a useful tool in helping students identify interests and possible career fields. Students who complete both items described here can use it as part of their High School and Beyond Plan, a graduation requirement.
     
    Use the links on the left to identify your skills and interests, explore careers, learn about different options for training and education after high school.

    Student Login Directions

    1. Log on to www.wois.org.
    2. Using the menu on the left side of your screen, click on “Portfolio.”
    3. Click on “Create New Portfolio.”
    4. Create a User ID using 5-20 characters.  Use a name you will easily remember.
    5. Create a Password using 5-20 characters.  We recommend that you use your student ID number.
    6. Please save all of your information to your portfolio.

    You may return to your portfolio each time you complete an assessment or research a career, school, or program. Save all of your work to your portfolio so it will be easily available to you in the future.

    Career Interest Areas Activity Directions

    The Career Interest Areas Activity helps you match your interests with types of careers.

    1. Go to www.wois.org and log on with your Site Key: Green1920.
    2. If you have not yet created a portfolio, follow the WOIS Student Login Directions above. You will save the results of your assessment and any additional research that you do to your portfolio.
    3. Click on “Assessments” in the navigation panel on the left side of the screen.
    4. Click on “Career Interest Areas.”
    5. While taking this survey of your preferences, quickly select the activity that you would prefer. Don’t spend much time thinking about it. Go with your first impression.
    6. When you finish answering all the questions, type your name in the box, then click on “Find my interest areas.”
    7. Save the results to your portfolio by clicking on “Save to My Portfolio.”
    8. Enter the Portfolio User ID and Password that you created for your Portfolio Login.
    9. Click “Login.” Your Career Interest Areas Activity was successfully saved in the Assessment Results section of your WOIS Portfolio. Print your Assessment Results to turn in as a part of your High School and Beyond Plan.
    10. Click on “Return to Career Interest Areas Activity.”
    11. Find your highest score (longest red bar) under “Your Career Interests.”
    12. Click on the title of the interest area with the highest score on the left side of the graph.
    13. Click on an occupation that interests you, read the material, and save it to your portfolio for future reference. While looking at the occupation, click “Add to Portfolio” to save the occupation in your WOIS Portfolio. Research as many occupations as you like!

    Interest Profiler Activity Directions

     The Interest Profiler helps you find out what your interests are and how they relate to the world of work.

    1. Go to www.wois.org and log on with your Site Key: Green1920.
    2. If you haven’t created a portfolio yet, follow the WOIS Student Login Directions above. You will save the results of your assessment and any additional research that you do to your portfolio.
    3. Click on “Assessments” on the left navigation panel.
    4. Click on “Interest Profiler.”
    5. Click “Start.”
    6. When you are finished responding to all the statements, click on “Go to Next Page.” If you have missed answering any of the questions, the page will appear with unanswered selections marked in red. Respond to those statements and click on “Go to Next Page.”
    7. When you finish answering the questions on all 5 pages, type your name in the box, then click on “Finish.”
    8. Save the results of the Interest Profiler to your Portfolio by clicking “Save to My Portfolio.”
    9. Enter the Portfolio User ID and Password that you created for your Portfolio Login.
    10. Click “Login.” Your Interest Profiler was successfully saved in the Assessment Results section of your WOIS Portfolio. Print your Assessment Results to turn in as a part of your High School and Beyond Plan.
    11. Click on “Return to Interest Profiler.”
    12. Find your highest score under “Your Score.”
    13. Click on the related careers to the right of the highest score under “Related WOIS Careers.”
    14. Click on an occupation that interests you. If you don’t find one you are interested in, click on “Back to Results” and click on related careers to the right of the next highest score.
    15. Click on an occupation that interests you, read the material, and save it to your portfolio for future reference.  While looking at the occupation, click “Add to Portfolio” to save the occupation in your WOIS Portfolio. Research as many occupations as you like!
