Early learning covers all areas of a child’s learning and development. In the years from birth through third grade children gain physical and social skills and develop emotionally and cognitively. This is a rich time to maximize a child’s opportunity to learn and is also a critical time for parents, caregivers and early learning professionals to be active observers and participants in a child’s growth and development. Current research shows that birth through third grade is the most extraordinary period of growth and development in a child’s life and lays the foundation for learning throughout a child’s life. The Kent School District understands the importance of high-quality, inclusive early learning practices and programs. Furthermore, the Kent School District believes that every child and family has unique gifts and abilities that are to be celebrated and nurtured and that families are their child’s first, most important and life-long teachers.
We are committed to promoting retention of home language and culture while involving parents, families, and communities as partners and decision-makers in early learning. Building trust and fostering collaborative relationships that benefit children, their families and the early learning professionals who work with them is a priority.
