Phase 4 of the Continuous Learning Plan
Phase four of Kent School District’s Continuous Learning Plan began on May 4.
Teachers are available for office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please see email communications from individual teachers for their specific office hours. Within these blocks of time, teachers are providing instruction to students either through virtual instruction and/or posted lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays are reserved for office hours only with students, and every Wednesday teachers will be involved in professional development.
The amount of instruction that teachers provide within the office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays will vary by grade level and is based on the recommendations and guidance provided by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). Please see below for the maximum recommended instructional times from OSPI.
- Grades K-1 = 45 minutes per day
- Grades 2-3 = 60 minutes per day
- Grades 4-6 = 90 minutes per day
The times above are daily averages and are also intended to include any homework time. In addition to content from your student’s classroom teacher, the Jenkins Creek PE and Music specialists will also post a lesson once per week for additional content/activities for your student(s). Please look for separate communication that will come from your student’s classroom teacher and specialists in the near future.
This new method of instruction is new to all of us. There were no courses around delivering online instruction in our teacher preparation programs, and we are all truly “learning by doing” this new way of teaching. Some teachers are jumping straight into the deep end of the pool with the technology, and some teachers will spend some time in the shallows before wading deeper. Either way, we will be trying new things and learning from mistakes, and I ask that we all give each other patience and grace as we learn to be proficient in this new reality.
Please do continue to partner with us as we explore and learn together. We can’t do this without you!
