  • Continuous Learning Plan Begins April 13

Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the COVID- 19 health crisis. As our teachers prepare to implement our Continuous Learning Plan which includes teacher office hours, resources and more after Spring Break (April 6-10), I would like to take this opportunity to share some thoughts about how our students can use this time to prepare as well.

Some of our teachers have already provided extended opportunities for their students to stay engaged in relevant learning toward their coursework. Although this learning is considered optional, I strongly encourage all our students to use this time to practice the necessary habits that will be required of them to be successful in this new learning environment during the closure.

Moving from a traditional educational model to a remote learning model will be a steep learning curve for many of our students. Setting aside time every day over the next few weeks to practice will be essential in helping prepare our students for success.

Suggested student strategies to prepare for Continuous Learning:

    • Develop a consistent daily study schedule for continuous learning.
    • Find your ideal study environment free from distractions.
    • Keep your space and study materials organized.
    • Practice making connections with friends and fellow classmates using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and/or other interactive, collaborative tools.
    • Have your family update email addresses in Skyward.

Between now and April 24, students and families can continue to access online resources for independent, self-directed learning on our website. Though there is no perfect strategy that guarantees online success, practicing these strategies now will help students develop the right habits-of-mind to be successful. We hope you find these helpful. You can also continue to check our online FAQ and www.kent.k12.wa.us/closure for the most up-to-date information.

Students, the most important factor in your continuous learning success during this school closure is fulfilling your role as the learner– the learning experience is what you make of it. Be an active participant, ask questions, and enjoy the opportunities that will be provided to you.

    Take care and stay healthy!
