  • Responding to Student Needs

We work hard to be responsive in real-time to student needs and student requests. In strengthening programs, we already have and building new opportunities for students, they begin to feel more connected to our school community. Studies show that afterschool programs help boost school attendance, improve academic performance, and increase student engagement.

    Connections Afterschool

In addition to sports, our afterschool programs have grown this year. Once the seventh-grade students learned all they had to do was find a teacher to start a club, we began to get requests. So far this year, we have Builder’s Club, Anime, Crafting, Writing, Ping Pong, and Meridian Responders to name a few.

Also, back by popular demand is Drama Club. After the success of last year’s Alice in Wonderland Jr., we are quite excited to put on two plays this year! A huge thanks to all the teachers/staff who give their time to running these clubs.

    Academic Connections

One of our school goals is to provide relevant learning experiences for students. Thanks to our partnership with GEAR UP, we are beginning to reach this goal. GEAR UP provides experiences for eighth-grade students. Through their STEM grants, our students will attend the Naturebridge Environmental Program. They will also be taking college visitations to the University of Washington, Green River College, and Renton Technical College.

    Upcoming Events

The second Annual Meridian Middle School Girls Conference “Cupcakes and Conversations: Ignite Your Fire” will take place in May. Last year we hosted 30 girls. They participated in workshops on financial literacy, self-esteem, and creative writing. This year will be even bolder, and we hope to have even more girls. Stay tuned!
