A Little About Me
I am happy to be part of the Springbrook family! Here’s a brief introduction about myself. I got a masters in education administration and a bachelors in elementary education from Grambling State University. I have 16 years of educational training along with leadership experiences, which has prepared me to be effective in serving as a leader across many levels.
As a former teacher, I was a key player in helping my students consistently score 95 percent or higher on met or exceeds expectations on the Texas Assessment Knowledge and Skills state Reading, Writing and Math tests. After seven years of success in the classroom, I was appointed by the Texas Education Agency to support the development of the English Language Arts STAAR test (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness). This is pre-cursor to the Smarter Balanced Assessment model.
I began development as an administrator in Desoto Independent School District an urban burb of Dallas, Texas by leading the implementation of a pilot bilingual reading program for kindergarten and first-grade students. In addition to coaching teachers on strategies for more engaging literacy instruction for all learners, I planned and led a series of continuing professional development for large groups and individuals aligned to the Texas standards and the principles of the American Reading Company Bilingual pilot program.
After successfully implementing the pilot, I took the opportunity to become an elementary administrator in Renton School District where I continued to live out my passion to help students and build community with families.
My consistent success in preparing teachers and students to learn at their highest levels in equitable classrooms drove me to continue to make a difference in families’ lives in my own neighborhood, South Seattle where history was made by developing the blueprint for a high-quality public charter high school.
I now focus on Springbrook Elementary school and am dedicated to continuing to build a supportive school culture where families are partners in their child’s education and skill development. I am committed to creating classrooms where every day is designed for students to learn in a supportive equitable inclusive school environment.
