• School Board Meetings Overview

Board meeting agendas, minutes, and policies are accessible through the BoardDocs Site. To view meeting agendas, policies, from the BoardDocs site, click on the tabs at the top left of the page under the Kent School District logo.
Regular meetings of the school board are held in the boardroom of the administration center located at 12033 SE 256th Street, Kent, at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Agendas are available from the Superintendent’s Office or can be printed from any school office the Monday afternoon before the meeting or online at BoardDocs. All regular meetings are open to the public.
Special meetings are open to the public and may be called by the president or a majority of the Board members to hold work-study sessions, meet deadlines, or attend to emergency situations. News media are notified 24 hours in advance of special meetings. In the event of an emergency involving fire, flood, earthquake, possible personal injury, or property damage, the Board may meet immediately and take official action without prior notification.
Closed executive sessions can be held by law only to discuss matters which require confidentiality. Such issues include personnel action, student discipline, site acquisition, litigation, or employee negotiations. However, all formal actions resulting from these meetings are taken in public sessions.

    Public Testimony

The purpose of board meetings is for the Board to conduct its business in public, not to provide a public forum. The Board, however, does provide a period during the meeting when visitors may make formal presentations, seek clarification, discuss nonagenda items, and make presentations on agenda items.
    When speaking to the board:
    • Complete a blue card (available at the agenda table) with your name, address, and purpose. Give it to the Board secretary before the meeting begins.
    • State your name and address at the start of your testimony. Identify the organization, if any, that you represent.
    • Limit your remarks to three minutes.

Submit written material to the Superintendent's Office at least one week in advance of the meeting when providing board members with background information. In addition to attending a board meeting, you can voice your opinion by:

Call the Superintendent's Office or members of your school board at (253) 373-7701.
Write the Board or superintendent at 12033 SE 256th Street, A200, Kent, WA 98031-6643.

    Board Response

The School Board, the District, and the community are partners and advocates for children and their education. To support this partnership, the School Board encourages community members to attend each month's board meetings. If questions and inquiries are made that require additional research, a response will be prepared and available within a week of the meeting.
