Register for Kindergarten

  • 2020-2021 Online Enrollment Process

We are accepting kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year through an online process while Kent School District (KSD) schools and offices are closed.

You do not need to follow this process if you already returned a completed 2020-2021 registration packet to your child’s elementary school before offices closed on March 19, 2020.

Step 1: Is Your Child Old Enough?

Children must be five years old by August 31 to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

If your child will be five years old between September 1 and October 31, KSD offers a fee-based assessment to determine if children demonstrate the advanced pre-academic, social and emotional readiness necessary for kindergarten success. Learn more about Kindergarten Early Entry

    Step 2: Find Your School

Families must register new students in their boundary school. The KSD school boundaries map may not be accurate for all addresses.

If you would like to verify your boundary school, please email enrollment@kent.k12.wa.us with your students’ grade levels and address.

Step 3: Complete & Return Enrollment Packet Electronically

Download the enrollment packet for kindergarten students in your preferred language.

Complete the fillable enrollment packet electronically and email completed forms to enrollment@kent.k12.wa.us.

    1. Click the blue underlined text to open the enrollment packet in Adobe Acrobat and save it to your device. If you don’t have it already, download Adobe Acrobat for free online.
    2. Fill in the enrollment packet electronically and save the completed document to your device.
    3. Email your completed enrollment packet as an attachment to enrollment@kent.k12.wa.us. Please include student’s name, grade level, and address in the email.

Step 4: Wait to Hear from the School

Once your email is received, we will send your enrollment materials to your boundary school. The school will contact you with more information regarding the start date and class information.

    Step 5: Prepare Verification Documents

When the schools reopen, please be prepared with one of the following documents for student identification and proof of age, parent identification, and proof of address.

Student Identification and Proof of Age

    • Birth certificate, or
    • Passport, or
    • State identification (ID) card, or
    • Another form of legal identification which includes the student’s name and birthdate.

    Parent Identification

    • Driver’s license, or
    • State identification (ID) card, or
    • Another form of legal identification which includes the parent’s name and photo.

    Proof of Address

    • Lease or purchase agreement, or
    • Utility bill (cable, electricity, water, or home telephone) not more than one month old.

Kent School District maintains the right to ask for additional documents if there is a concern about any document used to establish an address. See Policy and Procedure 3110 and 3110P for more information.

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Education has developed a guide to help parents understand their child’s enrollment options in the state of Washington.
