    Transitions to New, Higher Standards In Kent School District

    Common Core State Standards (CCSS) CCSS are the adopted standards in the state of Washington for English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Kent School District is phasing in implementation of these standards over the 2012-13 to 2014-15 school years.
    Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) On October 4, 2013, Governor Inslee and Superintendent Dorn announced the adoption of the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) for implementation in Washington’s schools to provide consistent science education through all grades, with an emphasis on engineering and technology. This NGSS FAQ page contains more information about the standards and KSD's implementation timelines.  NGSS Parent Guides will provide you with an overview of standards for each grade band.
    The ISTE (International Society of Technology in Education) student standards for educational technology work within Kent's teaching and learning environment. These standards incorporate many essential skills-based themes for transforming learning environments with the support of technology.

    KSD Programs

    Assistive Technology  Resources to ensure all students increase independence and achievement through use of technology.

    Dual Language The program will develop a high academic and linguistic proficiency in two languages by participating in a rigorous academic program that enhances the development of bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy

    Highly Capable (HiCap) Programs for students who have special needs created by their depth of understanding and insight, advanced academic skills, rapid rate of learning, aptitude for higher levels of thinking and capacity for creative thinking.

    Social-Emotional Learning
    Second Step teaches developmentally appropriate social-emotional skills to children in grades K-8 and Kelso's Choice is a conflict-management program for K-6 students.
    Summer Programs Kent School District will provide extended learning opportunities during the summer months at the elementary and secondary level.
    Technology resources to help teachers engage their students in the classroom.
    Students can earn high school World Language credit through demonstrated proficiency on an approved test of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
