Race to the Top
In 2012, a grant application written jointly by seven King County school districts won $40 million in federal Race to the Top funds. Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, Seattle, and Tukwila school districts competed together as “The Road Map District Consortium,” a reference to their participation in the Road Map Project.
The Road Map Project is a collaborative effort to dramatically improve education in South Seattle and South King County. The projects are organized
into three themes, all of which are designed to help the region make
significant progress towards specific goals:
- Start Strong: We know that early learning is critical
- STEM Strong: We live in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)-intensive region
- Stay Strong: These strategies help more students enroll in post-secondary education and be successful
- Foundational Elements: We are investing in teaching and leading, data systems and grant management to increase student achievement
Visit the Road Map Region's Race to the Top website to learn more about the project or the the December 2014 Race to the Top Report presented to the Board of Education.
