High School and Beyond Plan
Purpose: The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) gives students the opportunity to think about their future and develop a plan to get the most out of high school so they're ready to pursue their adult lives no matter what direction they plan to take.
Depending on your choice, there are three or four components to the HSBP. All items should be printed, clipped or stapled together and submitted to one of the KSD counselors.
WOIS Career Interest Areas Activity
Complete the Career Interest Areas Activity, two surveys that will help you identify possible careers based on your interests.
A link to WOIS can be found here. An iGrad username and password are required for the initial log on and are provided on the WOIS Career Areas Interest Activity document.
Include a printout of your survey results in your HSBP along with your research about one area of career/job focus.
Submit the completed Job Shadow or Career Interview Prior Approval
Complete a 3-hour job shadow in a career area of interest, fill out the Job Shadow Observation Form
Interview someone who is employed in a career or field that interests you. Use the Career Interview Questions and Reflection form.
High School Course and Graduation Plan
Complete the High School Course and Graduation Plan indicating how and when you will meet your high school graduation requirements including classes, state tests, and culminating project.
Class of 2013+: If your third year of math is something other than Algebra 3-4, please complete this form and give it to your counselor as well.
13th Year Plan
Complete one of the 13th year beyond plans that reveals evidence of career exploration following high school (i.e. entrepreneurship , military enlistment, college bound, employment).
The plan should be well thought out and accurately represent your skills, abilities, and interest with realistic and attainable goals for reaching the education and career goals identified.
Write a five-paragraph essay that tells your story, including the aspects of your life that have helped you become the person you are now. Think about your past experiences, your present situation, and your future goals.
As you are thinking about your experiences and gathering ideas, consider all parts of your life:
Your essay should be an example of your best writing. Use correct grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation. Please type your essay.
Paragraph 1 Write an introduction to you and your story.
Paragraph 2 Write about your past.
- What has happened in your life that has shaped who you are now?
Paragraph 3 Write about your present situation in relation to school and your goals.
- What is your current situation?
- How do you feel about that?
- What steps are you currently taking to make progress towards your future? Or what steps do you intend to take?
Paragraph 4 Write about your interests, plans, and goals for your future.
- How have your experiences influenced your plans and goals?
- What are your immediate goals?
- What are your goals for 5 years in the future?
Paragraph 5 Write a conclusion to wrap up your story.
- End with some final thoughts that show us how your past experiences have changed you and are making you into the person you want to be.
- You could also include how these experiences have prepared you for a successful life and career.
