We are sharing photos from Horizon Elementary School to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, October 11. Horizon students and staff recently participated in Orange Shirt Day to honor Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools, and learn more about the history of those schools.
“I created these lessons, based on a story by Phyllis Webstad who attended a residential school, to bring awareness to what Indigenous children went through at the residential schools. We focused on learning about residential schools and developing the skill of empathy.” Said Kari Mansfield, Horizon Elementary behavior interventionist.
