Frequently Asked Fee Waiver Questions
-
How do I find out if my family is eligible for the waiver and which application should I complete?
Complete a free and reduced-price meals application if:
- Your family meets the income requirements; or
- Your family receives basic food benefits; or
- Your family participates in the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR); or
- Your student is in foster care or a dependent of the state; or
- You received free and reduced-price meals during the last school year
If you meet the requirements above, you should still complete the application even if your school currently provides free meals to all students regardless of individual family eligibility.
-
When will the fee waiver be available for each school year?
The consent to share option is available through the completion of the free and reduced-price meals application or a Family Income Survey.
You must complete an application and receive a fee waiver before making payments for eligible fees. Refunds will not be issued for payments made before a fee waiver was on file and confirmed with the families.
To ensure the waiver is in place for the entire school year, we recommend completing the free and reduced-price meals application or family income survey before the start of the school year.

How often do I have to apply for the waiver?
Consent must be obtained annually. Without parental consent, KSD cannot share eligibility information for the purpose of automatically waiving fees and fees will not be waived until obtained.
