Joseph Bento Appointed as District 1 Director
Please join the Kent School District and Board of Directors in welcoming newly appointed School Board Director Joseph Bento. Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts administered the oath of office and welcomed Director Bento at the February 10 virtual board meeting.
Director Bento was interviewed and unanimously appointed by the school board to replace Leah Bowen, District 1 director, who resigned in December 2020. As an appointed school board member, he will serve in this role until the next regularly scheduled school board election in November 2021.
As part of the application process, Director Bento wrote about becoming a school board member to support the community and make sure all students are able to receive an excellent education regardless of background, upbringing, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or ability.
Director Bento holds a bachelor‘s degree from the University of Idaho and a master’s in education from City University of Seattle. He is currently a teacher in the Renton School District and has lived in the city of Kent since 2013.
Kent School District's Board of Directors have designated geographic areas but represent KSD as a whole.
- Appointed to represent District 1 in February 2021.
