  • Closing Educational Achievement Gaps

    The Title I program is a federally funded program designed to provide all students with significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.. This program provides supplemental support to students performing below grade level from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

    Title I funds are allocated to school districts according to poverty data from the U.S. census. School buildings receive their Title I funds according to the percent of students receiving free and reduced lunches. In Kent all elementary schools with 40% or more Free and Reduced (F/R) lunches are schoolwide Title I schools.

    School Building Plan

    All schools are required to write a program building plan called a School Improvement Plan. A comprehensive needs assessment is conducted followed by a year long planning process which includes staff, parent and community involvement. School changes are made to address the academic needs of all students and also follow the state-identified achievement standards. The school must review and revise its plan yearly and is subject to the school improvement provisions of Title I.

    Federal Title I funds supplement school funds from non-federal sources. Funds may be blended with other federal state or local funds to upgrade the learning environment. School staff and parents decide how they need to spend these funds according to their Title I building plan. Schoolwide programs must include parent and family gngagement and Professional Development.

    Request Professional Qualifications

    In compliance with the requirements of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) or instructional paraeducator(s).

    Request Teacher Information

    • Whether the teacher has met Washingotn teacher certification requirements for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction
    • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional status through which Washingotn qualifications or certification criteria have been waived.
    • The college major and any graduate certification or degree held by the teacher.
    • Whether the student is provided services by paraeducators, and if so, their qualifications.

    Request Paraeducator Information

    • Documentation of at least two years of study at an institution or higher education or an associate’s degree; or,
    • Whether the paraeducator passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment which measures skills and content knowledge related to reading writing and math
