School Attendance Boundaries
In 2021, Kent School District opened River Ridge Elementary School located on the West Hill of Kent. To populate the new school, a boundary analysis was conducted and boundary changes implemented to open the new elementary school in the fall of 2021. The new school, funded by a 2016 November bond measure, helped reduce overcrowding in neighboring elementary schools.
Continuous population changes since the last boundary analysis in the 2006-2007 school year have led to the need for additional boundary analysis and review of individual school boundaries for all schools across the district. This review and future boundary changes will help balance enrollment and provide equitable educational programs. The factors for this boundary review include each schools' enrollment, capacity, utilization, physical condition, educational program suitability, and technology infrastructure.
In 2022, to move the boundary review process forward in supporting student success, helping to balance enrollment, and providing equitable educational programing, three boundary committees were convened to conduct a review process. Committee meetings began in March to determine meeting cadence and to begin the work in completing the objectives listed below.
Boundary Change Review Committee is focusing on reviewing the previously proposed boundary changes from last winter.
Middle School Model Committee is focusing on creating a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade model that is inclusive for all students and families. The committee will make recommendations on all aspects of moving all district middle school students to a sixth grade through eighth grade model.
Outreach Plan and Communication Committee is focusing on creating a communication and support plan for students and families impacted by boundary changes as well as manage all communication work with our community.
After the committees complete their objectives, a comprehensive boundary change plan will be created and brought to the school board for approval.

Over the last few months, we have been soliciting interest from our KSD parents/guardians and our KSD staff to be a part of one of our three Boundary committees. We are happy to announce that we have a great representation of our community and appreciate all that applied and showed interest in this very important work.
Each and every student in our district benefits every day from the resources provided by our voters.
