Dear Springbrook Elementary Families and Friends,
Welcome to a new year at Springbrook Elementary School! I am very excited to work with our current and new families. You may or may not know that we will open with all students attending with in-person learning. The first day of school will be Thursday, August 25, 2022, for students in grades 1-12. Kindergarteners’ first day of school will be Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Our staff understands the many challenges our families are experiencing. We are committed to partnering with you to do our very best for your child and family to make sure that each student and family is supported socially, emotionally and academically.
We would like to welcome Lisa Couch, our new Assistant Principal. Lisa brings years of educational experience both as a teacher, specialist, and administrator to our school. A resident of Kent, Ms. Couch is committed to our Springbrook community and is eager to support the exciting work that lies ahead.
OUR commitment to our school community this year:
- There will be a focus on social-emotional learning. We have developed creative ways for teachers and students to get to know one another, ways for teachers to build classroom community, ways for staff to be visible, and ways to support the social-emotional needs of students and families.
- Please contact Jami Kauzlarich (Ms. K) our school counselor if you need any support with food, clothes, translation, housing, social emotional support, etc.
- There will be regular live instruction in addition to videos and independent work with continued individualized supports for all students.
- Students will receive instruction in the core content areas, and we will continue to support and grow language skills for our English Language Learners. We will share strategies for how families can support their children when they do not have someone who speaks the target language in their home.
Here is what else you need to know:
- Breakfast: Breakfast begins at 8:45 a.m. Students may enter the lunchroom at 8:40 a.m. to eat breakfast.
- Recess: Recess is at various times in the day for each grade level. Classes must stay together during recess and will be assigned a location.
- Before school and dismissal routines
- Before school – please do not come early. Students will not be supervised until 8:45 a.m. School starts at 9:00 a.m.
- Students will enter the building through the cafeteria door. If they are not eating breakfast, they will line up with their class in the gym until they are dismissed to their classrooms.
- If your child arrives after 9:00 a.m. please have them enter the building through the front office.
-
- After school – Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m. Students will be dismissed to the busses and daycare vans, which will be parked in our front bus loop. Walkers will be dismissed to walk directly home (no playing on the playground). Car Riders will go to their cars. Please do not get out of the car.
- If you want to get out of your car to pick up your student, park in a designated parking place and meet them at the Springbrook Elementary sign located at the front of the school.

- Families & Visitors in KSD Schools and Buildings
- Families and visitors have access to school campuses and must sign in when they enter and leave the school or KSD building.
- Volunteers must complete the VIPS application process before volunteering in school.
It is also important to continue to check our school and district website and communication pathways to stay informed about changes that are to come. Most importantly, make sure we have your most up-to-date telephone and or email information in the Skyward System
We are committed to doing our very best to provide a wonderful, successful, and enriching year of learning for all our students. Please feel free to contact me with questions or additional ways we can support your family.
