Welcome back families and friends to the 2020 – 2021 school year. We begin this year unlike any other, in a virtual learning environment. We are so glad that you are here, and we look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together. A special shout out to our newest Pine Tree Falcons, our incoming kindergarten students who will graduate high school as the class of 2033!
This past spring, school districts around the nation were forced to face an unprecedented situation and Kent School District was no exception. We moved from in-person learning to virtual learning quickly and with little time to prepare. We greatly appreciated your patience and understanding as we worked through the situation together.
Over the summer, we have had time to reflect, plan, and prepare rigorous and in-depth learning for all students this fall. We are better prepared and ready to serve all students in reading, writing, math, science, interventions, enrichment, special education, music, physical education and more. As we move forward, we ask for your partnership so that every student succeeds at high levels. Attendance is key along with strong two-way communication between families, teachers, and other educational staff.
Typically, Pine Tree Elementary has an Ice Cream Social at the beginning of every school year to introduce students to their upcoming teacher. This year, we are doing this a little differently. All students who have registered by August 19th will be receiving a postcard in the mail stating who their 2020 – 2021 teacher will be by August 24th. Families that register after August 19th will receive an email notifying them of their child’s teacher.
On Tuesday, August 25th from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM, teachers will be holding a virtual meet and great on-line. Homeroom teachers will email families with directions and the link to join. For questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly.
We know that there are many challenges currently facing our students and families. Please know that we are here to support you and your family.
All Pine Tree students will have access to a KSD laptop. If you have yours from last year, please make sure it works and is charged for the first day of school. If you don’t have one or do not have a way to connect to the internet, please contact your child’s teacher or check out https://www.kent.k12.wa.us/domain/5800 for the latest back-to-school updates.
Kent School District will continue to provide meal boxes at several locations throughout the district. Check our district homepage at https://www.kent.k12.wa.us for the most up to date information.
If your family is facing other challenges and are in need of assistance, please reach out to Vicky Wilson, our family advocate at Vicky.Wilson@kent.k12.wa.us or Eileen Mullen or school counselor at Eileen.Mullen@kent.k12.wa.us. They are ready to serve you and your family.
Take care and we look forward to connecting with you soon.
