Pillar C: Continuous Learning Community
After so much uncertainty, settling on class placements and routines has been a welcome change for our staff and students. Our team has been overjoyed to begin working with students in person again and to be able to provide the flexibility of remote learning for families needing that option. We have taken another step towards the productive learning routines that our students so greatly need.
One of our Carriage Crest Pillars is Pillar C: Continuous Learning Community. This means that we continuously focus on both student learning and our own learning as educators. These last months have required a tremendous amount of learning – everything from new technology to new ways of addressing student needs. Our team is currently diving into professional development on our math instruction. We are examining how we use purposeful questioning strategies and ways to deepen students’ mathematical reasoning. We are seeing the results of all our continuous learning through the skillful and dedicated hard work of our families, our teachers, and our students.
We know that there is much work ahead and this spring season is a critical time for ongoing learning. Recent news that Washington’s Smarter Balanced assessments will not be given this spring further allows our focus to remain on learning. Families can partner in this critical learning push by continuing to check in and encourage your child’s participation, particularly during independent work times. When students are engaging with their peers and teachers, they are consistently showing learning growth. A simple routine that can be highly beneficial is setting a daily reading time for your child and then checking in with them about what they are reading at dinner or bedtime.
Our team remains committed to supporting your child and your family however we can. Please let us know how we are doing, what we are doing well, and what we can do better to support your child’s learning. We have accomplished much in partnership this year. Through that partnership and our continuous learning, I know we have a tremendous season of learning and growth ahead.
