Grass Lake Elementary School partnered with the Covington Library in hosting the school’s literacy night at the “Library After Hours” event with great success. Approximately 400 students, families, teachers, and library staff were a part of the event. Attendees were first mesmerized by a Dr. Seuss themed magic show and then participated in a library scavenger hunt to learn more about what services and resources can be found at the library.
“We are so happy about how our Seuss After Hours Literacy Night at the Covington Library turned out. In partnership with Monica Sands at the King County Library System (KCLS), we created a parent engagement night that highlighted literacy and provided students and families an opportunity to learn more about what KCLS has to offer. It was a huge success that can be replicated for other Covington area elementary schools,” said Principal Dan Irvine.
The goal is to hold this event each year with a different elementary school in Covington on, or close to, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
